The railway sector is changing its mind and is moving forward towards more innovative and competitive solutions. The integrated control command and signalling subsystems (i.e. trackside and on-board) with their efficient and flexible operating rules (with impact on ERTMS/ETCS, ATO, TMS, IXL, telecom, ...) respect the following key drivers in any case:
- Competitive and cost effective (Capex and Opex)
- Short delivery time
- Standards consistency
In respect to more traditional train positioning systems, such as track circuits and axle counters, the safe train positioning can be guaranteed also by a new possibility, generated by the most innovative technologies and the incoming UNISIG standards; this new solution allows to get a vital train position by using satellite (for example GPS) complemented by specific mechanisms. The standards are in progress, but at the same time in Australia, ASTS already released the new solution currently in revenue service.
